  History

1889 Brinkers Food, one of the most innovative chocolate spread producers in the market, is founded in Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, by Bernardus Brinkers.
Originally Brinkers was a small trading company, specialised in the distribution of margarine, in those days a new product used as a replacement for the much more expensive butter.

1927 Brinkers’ first margarine factory is opened.

1948 One of the founder’s sons, also named Bernardus, starts a new venture introducing a brand-new product: a chilled chocolate butter, marketed under the brand name Choba. This product was basically the first chocolate spread ever on the market and even today, Choba is still a very well-known product in the Netherlands.

1960 The introduction of the now classic Nusco hazelnut chocolate spread.

1985 The management of Brinkers is taken over by Bernard and Joa Brinkers, the fourth generation responsible for the growing family business.

1993 The new chocolate spreads factory is realised in Enschede, Holland, introducing the latest technology available.

1994 Brinkers is the first chocolate spread manufacturer to develop a range of organic chocolate spreads under the brand name It’s My Life.

2001 The start of the sales, marketing and distribution of Masterfoods’ Snickers and Milky Way chocolate spreads in Holland.

2002 The production of Milky Way chocolate spreads in duo pots for the UK-market.

2005 Brinkers takes over the sales, marketing and distribution of Snickers and Milky Way chocolate spreads in Germany.

2006 The re-launch in Europe of Choba chocolate butter in cups in stead of the old fashioned foil-packs.

2007 The introduction of Brinkers BubbleChoq a lightly whipped and creamy chocolate spread, available in two varieties: Chocolate and Milk/Chocolate two colour mix.

2008 The realisation of a major extension of the existing premises to be opened in March. The extension will lead to the possibility of doubling the current production capacity.

The introduction of Brinkers Organic Chocolate Rhapsody, a luxurious and delicate range of chocolate spreads. Combined with its unique styling, Brinkers has created the ultimate chocolate spread experience.
